Ardgowan Club

Opening Day 2015

ARDGOWAN Club has officially started its 2015 season
with the formal opening of both the bowling greens and the tennis courts

President Douglas Warnock got the afternoon

underway when he welcomed his guests,

members and friends to the Club and wished

everybody well for the coming season,

stating that he hoped that everybody reached

their own individual goals for the season.

The President then invited his wife Anne to open

the bowling greens, in the traditional fashion,

by delivering the first bowl of the season.

Following the opening of the greens the members then made their way to the tennis courts where Cathy, wife of

Senior Vice President Kenneth Morrison, served the first ball of the

new season after Kenneth had praised the section in their endeavours

and their efforts during the previous season.

Both sections then got play under way with the bowling section

having their traditional wapenschaw.

During the afternoon tea and coffee was served in the clubhouse.

The day ended with an opening day dance, with the entertainment being provided by the popular Alan Mackie.

Last season, for a 6 week period, the Ardgowan Club Bowling Section was pleased to have the
opportunity to be part of Bowls Scotland ‘Friends with Benefits’ campaign.

The campaign was a chance to encourage people of all ages and ability
to try bowling following the succcess of the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow,
bowls proved to be a very popular attraction with Team Scotland leading the way.

At Ardgowan we are still offering Saturday morning coaching,
although other dates may be arranged if this is not suitable.

We will continue to encourage participation in club Wapenschaws
and playing time over the 6 week period of the campaign for a fee of £10,
this also allows full use of the club facilities,
Juniors of school age receive free membership for the first year.

No matter your ability or age, bowling is an enjoyable and sociable game and at
Ardgowan you can relax in the friendly atmosphere and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Bowls will be provided and participants are asked to wear flat soled shoes.
