Gents Report 2010

The past season for the gentlemen bowler’s of the club I think can best be described as mixed.

Internally we have to congratulate Alan Walker for successfully retaining his championship in a very close final with Hamish Ewing which was played in a typical sporting manner by these two league teammates. We would also like to congratulate all the other successful winners in the other internal competitions and offer our “hardlines” to those who just fell at the last hurdle. As regards the additional internal competitions, mostly played on Sunday’s during the season, with the exception of the inaugural playing of “The Jimmy Dunlop Memorial Trophy” the entries were once again disapponting. The current gents match committee will bring forward proposals at the bowling section agm to try and alleviate this decline in entries for these competitions. One idea brought forward for season 2010 in playing the nominated triples competition on the Sunday’s in September never got off the ground. So with only two teams entering it would appear to be “back to the drawing board” with regard to the running of this competition.

Externally our league season in both the rinks and triples leagues was very disappointing. This we feel is due to stretching ourselves “too thin on the ground”, by entering two triples teams. We will propose that we only enter one triples team for season 2011. I would once again like to record my thanks to the three golfers who enabled us to enter two triples teams last season . In the SBA competitions our congratulations go to T.Gwilliam, A.McGougan, H.Ewing and H.C. Barr on reaching the district senior fours final. Moving to the RBA competitions we congratulate J.Evans, I.Raeburn, G.McWilliam and W.Straine on winning the RBA senior fours title. We also offer our congratulations to A.McDougall, C.Pickett, H.Ewing and A.Walker for winning the sponsored fours title. In the G&D championships we congratulate R.Currie, R.Love and H.C. Barr for winning the triples championship.

I would like to finish my report by thanking my match committee for their tireless work throughout the year and those who assisted in umpiring, marking or just helping at our various internal and external competitions.
